δή (Hom. et al.; pap, LXX, En, TestSol, TestJob, JosAs, apologists, exc. Ar.) a marker that invites attention to what is being stated.
a marker denoting that a statement is definitely established, indeed (cp. Eur., Alc. 233 for the deictic force; freq. = our colloq. ‘you see’) B 6:11. ὸ̔ς δὴ καρποφορεῖ who indeed bears fruit Mt 13:23 (relat. w. δή as EpArist 4; 125; Jos., Ant. 17, 19; Just., D. 7, 1).—W. expr. denoting time ἐκ γὰρ δὴ πολλῶν χρόνων for (already; or, the fact is that) many years ago 1 Cl 42:5 (cp. Just., D. 71, 3 καὶ δὴ τὴν ἀπόδειξιν ποιήσομαι ‘and you can be sure I will prove it’.—οὐ γὰρ δή γε ‘for of course … not’ Just., D. 13, 1.)—In indirect qu. τί δή ποτε Dg 1. S. δήποτε, δήπου.
